Piper Paul has more than 22 years of piping experience, with a background in solo competition, pipe bands, tutoring, weddings, funerals, corporate events, and entertainment piping.

He first competed at the National Championships in 2001 and was invited to play at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow that same year. Between 2002 and 2007 he won a number of solo and band competitions, including the South African National Solo Championships.

By the end of 2017, Piper Paul had performed at more than 1,500 weddings. He tutored a school Novice Juvenile Pipe Band until 2020 and served as Pipe Major of a Grade 4 Senior Band until the same year. From 2023 to 2024, he played with the Transvaal Scottish.
